California makes $27 million in funding available for zero-emission trucks

The state of California is offering $27 million in funding to replace polluting trucks with zero-emission vehicles. This is the first installment of $90 million that will be made available for the Zero-Emission Class 8 Freight and Port Drayage Trucks category, which includes freight trucks (including drayage), waste haulers, dump trucks and concrete mixers.

Existing vehicles must be engine model years 1992 to 2012, and must be scrapped in exchange for a zero-emission replacement vehicle. All private and public entities that own and operate eligible vehicles in the state may apply. The maximum funding amount is $200,000 per vehicle.

Eligible participants will be awarded funding on a first-come, first-served basis. The South Coast Air Quality Management District will administer the funding. Applications for the program will be accepted online, beginning Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
