The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) is actively investigating hoverboard falls and fires. CPSC engineers and scientists are testing new and damaged hoverboards the agency’s lab in Rockville, Md. The goal is to determine the cause of the fires and the instability. CPSC staff is focusing on the components of the hoverboards’ lithium-ion battery packs and their interaction with the circuit boards inside the unit.
