China’s once-hot housing market has taken an unusual turn this summer, as evidenced by the changes in the land market.
“Land sale” is a common expression in China. In reality, Chinese property owners only have the right to use the land for 70 years. Upon the expiration of the 70-year period, the buildings on the land belong to the owner, and the land is taken back by the government.
