For an average man, strength and hardness are basically the same thing, but for a material engineer, these two are widely apart. While the strength of any material indicates its resistance to stress and deformation, the hardness indicates its scratch resistance capability. The strength of any material is measured by its tensile strength i.e. the resistance of any material before breaking under continuous pressure.
