March 2021 saw the tech billionaire Elon Musk tweeting that he wanted to create a city encompassing all of the Boca Chica Village in Texas and the surrounding area. The name will be called Starbase. The secluded beachside community of Boca Chika Village was once a haven for retirees and outdoor people who enjoyed dirty biking, fishing, or lounging near the water. Today, however, is a much different story. Traffic backs up on the lone highway out of the unincorporated area that’s now home to half a dozen residents and Space X’s facility. During the day, there is a swarm of selfie-seeking tourists lining the road to take photos with the stainless steel spaceship under development. At night, excavators plow the earth at the busy construction site of the project.
