This is the Harbin Taiping International Airport, hailed as China’s most futuristic ever as it shows that “stellar looking” design. This is a massive step-up to the eastern cities of China, as the old Harbin Airport is and has always been needing a change.

In recent years, China has been at the forefront of constructing the most impressive infrastructure projects that the world has ever seen, from creating the world’s largest airport terminal, to producing artificial islands, and even a 50-kilometer bridge said to be the longest ever.
But this time, they are trying to create a unique futuristic airport.

Unveiled as a snowflake-shaped airport, the Harbin Taiping International Airport is Definity one of the most impressive futuristic infrastructure projects around the world. It will house over 43 million passengers per year, with approximately 320,000 flights annually by its completion in the year 2030.

The design of the airport takes after a snowflake that has gently fallen onto the land. This is a reference to the city of where it resides, which is Harbin, known for wintry landscapes. The roof shape is also said to come from snowdrifts function as skylights, where the warmth of the sun touches and thus reducing the need for artificial light, making it efficient and energy saving, at the same time giving the people inside the feel of natural heat, this is a superb idea, as the metropolis of Harbin tends to experience immense snow.

The interior of this project is decorated with beautiful greenery areas, where it presents itself as a pause for individuals who come into the airport to take a moment and stop the hustle and bustle of the work life and just enjoy nature.

While the plan is one thing to look at, it is also constructed as a five-finger departure corridor meaning to say that the model of the infrastructure greatly reduces the time it takes for travelers to walk and arrive at their gate, this would lessen the congestion that this airport may face as it is going to expect tens of millions of people coming in and out of it.

Although the method is based on something that the earth produces, it is yet still able to distinguish itself as a future-looking stellar spaceship. It is as if the terminal will be the aircraft. This proves that the outlook of travel will be an exciting one!

The firm that presented this design was MAD Studio, they are also the ones behind Absolute World in Canada, Harbin’s Opera House, a building that is said to be on par with the famous Sydney Opera House, and some other world-class architectural projects.

Despite being constructed with modern technology, and it being a complex mega airport, it is yet designed to be an efficient and energy saving structure. This shows that China who is known as the world’s number 1 contributor to global pollution producers is trying to change, and in a way that they can also prove that they are trying, even if it is just a minor project.

Although today, Harbin Taiping International Airport is a modest airway that serves about 20 million passengers annually, and by the time the new Terminal 3 will be completed, which is the airport’s expansion. It will have a total passenger capacity of over 43 million every year, that’s more than double! It will transform the regional hub of Harbin into a world-class transportation link. A way that would make the city of Harbin becoming a more attractive destination compared to nearby Metropolis and Countries.
