Dignitary Panel: Africa as a Renewable Energy Power House

– It is increasingly clear that Africa has the potential to lead the world in scaling-up and generating renewable energy. How can this transition on the continent be supported by institutions in other countries?
– While several countries in Sub Saharan Africa have significant renewable energy sources, they lack the conditions to develop them. How do private companies assist national efforts to do so?
– The current electricity generation capacity in Africa is beset with challenges, what are some business and policy strategies that could potentially increase the continent’s generation capacity
– How do renewable energy providers ensure that the grid for solar and wind power is flexible enough to respond to rapid changes in both demand and generation and keep the energy system balanced in order to account for the intermittent nature of renewable power sources.
– Sub-Saharan Africa has enormous potential in the area of renewable energy, however, around 90% of the continent’s economically feasible hydropower potential (equal to a tenth of the world’s total) remains unexploited. Why is this the case? And how can the region fast track the feasibility of hydropower potential
