There was an idea to bring together a group of Chinese people, to see if they could become something more… fast forward 5 thousand years and the People’s Republic of China is now the second-largest economy in the world, only behind the Yankees. The capital of China is Beijing and it is a massive city. Over 20 million people live in the Beijing metropolitan area. What happens when you put 20 million people in just one city? It gets really hard for that city to function. It is estimated that the average traffic waiting time in Beijing is around three hours. That wasted time adds up and eventually, the country loses money because of that. Something needed to be changed. So back in 2014, China’s god-emperor, I mean, the president of China Xi Jinping had a brilliant idea. What if they built a new city just southwest of Beijing. It will be an all-new city, with cutting-edge technology, massive green areas, and even 5g internet access for everybody.
Technological paradise
Since Xiongan is going to be the city of the future, it has to have a lot of integrated technology in it. The 5g internet will be easily accessible everywhere in the city and the CCTV camera footage and everything else will be saved on a certain storage facility. The main moat of transportation is thought to be a self-driving taxi that will cut the costs of taxi drivers and an overall number of accidents on the road. And as for the financial side of the city, it is believed that most of the transactions in Xiongan will go through a blockchain network, which as you probably already know is highly secure. Not only that, the workers already working on the various projects in the city are already getting paid through China’s CBDC, which stands for Central Banks Digital Currency, or as friends call it, digital Yuan. The digital currency institute of China is already working to make the digital Yuan available on every single payment device.
This ruthless integration of technology in every aspect of life in Xiongan will require more and more tech companies to build more and more innovative technologies to make life in the city better and better. This will give an incentive for new startups to start their adventures in the new city. Eventually, China’s Communist Party plans for Xiongan to have 75% of the economy to be composed of tech companies. Considering the things CCP can do that no other democratically elected governments can do, it will be easy to force a few companies to move from wherever they are now, to the city of the future.
A purpose
The main objective of building Xiongan is to alleviate the stress that Beijing has had for more than 10 years now. The transfer of many non-essential institutions from the capital to the new city will bring a lot of people with it and that way the first and crucial objective will be dealt with. Along with that, possibly 100s of thousands of jobs will be created and China’s many skillful companies will grow during the building stages of this city. Overall this gargantuan project will cost China more than 3.5 trillion Yuan, or 560 billion US dollars to build if everything goes according to plan. When talking about building a city many, many details have to be taken into consideration and it is easy to miss something that will require more funds than initially thought. But considering the economic growth potential, the city of the future will inevitably have, those mistakes will be easily dealt with. At the end of the day, this city seems to be a perfect gift from Xi to his people and the country of China. And everything is so perfect and advanced and pretty, it seems like it’s too good to be true, but let’s ask the question is it?
