South Africa’s new Smart Cities, Upcoming projects 2022
Smart cities are becoming a new trend in modern living that is becoming more and more dominant across the African continent. When we are counting African countries with smart cities, South Africa also hopped in, in a new way of living by adding smart cities in their country as part of promoting economic growth while also improving the quality of life for the citizens. But what a ‘smart city’ actually means for South Africa? To the South Africans, here is the answer to what a smart city means. This was delivered by Carshif Talip, “who is the area of expertise leader for Urban Planning and Land Infrastructure at engineering consultancy Zutari” he then answered, ‘smart city’ is a city that leverages innovation to achieve its desired outcomes. Innovation does not necessarily mean only technology, he said. A “smart city” encapsulates all of the qualities that are crucial for any growing city. These include opportunity, amenity, safety, resilience, inclusivity, and prosperity.
