“Manufacturers these days want to show that they are being progressive and that they are looking down the road, further than we can even think. Right now there is a lot of uncertainty of what the future of autonomy is going to look like. What is the future of the cars going to look like? Are we going to be driving? Are we going to be flying? Nobody really wants to know… nobody knows. So these manufacturers are trying to show that they have got all the bases covered. We’ve got flying cars, we got self-driving cars, we’ve got traditional sports cars too. But having all those bases covered the manufacturers can be sure that regardless of which way the transportation industry goes, they’ve got a plan.”

“Our customer base is somebody who is looking for something rare. The ultimate car, right. So Bugatti customer is a luxurious, but very fast vehicle. Our customer is a little bit different. It’s somebody who wants something more limited, more rare, American, the ultimate car. Not just luxurious, not just fast, not just a road-car. The ultimate in all levels.”
8. Various of open-top concept car from IED Institute of European Design

“Some of these concept cars are giving us an idea for the styling cues we’ll see in production cars in the near future. Cars like the (Porsche) Mission E are going to hit production in just a year or so. But some other things like the Volkswagen Sedric which is their all autonomous boxy thing. That’s a vision for maybe 2025 or for maybe never at all.”

Away from the booths of the major car manufacturers smaller boutique companies are showing their vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show.
Some are fun, some futuristic, some quirky and all of them are competing for attention on the show floor.
STORYLINE
This car is perfect for people who love to drive off-road and up mountains.
That’s because the Sbarro concept car has two extra wheels, sitting inside the body of the car.
When one tyre has a puncture, or when extra wheels are needed in certain off-road situations, the driver can just fold the extra wheels down – a bit like an aeroplane lowering its landing wheels.
The Sbarro off road concept is just one of many quirky cars being shown at the Geneva Motor Show.
British company Kahn Design specialises in modifying already existing cars.
The company is showing a modified Land Rover Defender at the show.
The Kahn design version – called the Flying Huntsman 6X6 Civilian Carrier – has room for nine people.
The six-wheel giant car has also been extended by 880 millimetres compared to the original.
