Toyota has unveiled a personal scooter that people can ride in a standing position. Let’s check it out.
STORY:
Toyota says it’s a new product in the making. Called the “Winglet,” it is more compact and easier to carry around than the Segway. And its smallest model is less than 10 kilograms.
The car maker says the machine would be useful in such places as airports, shopping malls and hospitals.
[Yoshiyuki Kawarasaki, Toyota Project Manager]:
“In the future, if you used this machine at an airport, it would obtain the latest flight and terminal information and take you to the right gate automatically. Wouldn’t it be convenient especially if you were in a foreign country?”
Two wheels and internal sensors constantly monitor the user’s position. It then makes adjustments in power to ensure stability. A unique mechanism allows the rider to go forward, backward and turn
simply by shifting body weight.
Toyota is running more tests before the Winglet is released.
