ONE MAN’S DREAM IS THE WHOLE WOLRD’S NIGHTMARE
The world is watching in horror as Vladimir Putin’s Russian Federation wreaks unimaginable havoc on the lives and homeland of their Ukrainian neighbours. While it has been inspiring to witness such a united global response from the international community, the simple fact remains that our collective sympathy for Ukraine and disapproval of Putin’s war is not enough to stop this savage and unprovoked act of aggression on its people. And for WHAT?? Cities and civilians bombed, families ripped apart, loved ones killed and economies destroyed by a delusional dictator inflicting his Soviet fantasies on the sovereign state of Ukraine and the world. A fantasy turned nightmare we’re watching play out from the safety of our living rooms, while feeling helpless to do anything about it.
I’VE GOT SOUL, BUT I’M NOT A SOLDIER
We must ALL do something, but the question is WHAT? Everyone has a voice. A few have money and power, while others have specialised knowledge and skills. Artistes can create. Teachers can inform and community leaders can influence. But what about the rest of us? For people of faith everywhere, you can pray to the source of all life, who goes by many different names but regardless of the name you use for God, this would be a good time to get in touch. For those who don’t subscribe to any notion of a higher power, then just pray to Love. We all believe in love, and whether you know it or not, love is the most powerful force in the universe.
TURN OFF THE NEWS. SWITCH ON YOUR LIGHT
The time is NOW for ALL of us to stand united, and find some course of non-violent action in this fight, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Love will always trump hate when our collective human family is committed to the triumph of good over evil. Darkness is nothing but the absence of light, so look for the switch and turn yours on. This goes for the millions of Russian civilians and soldiers who do NOT want this war, but who fear that they have no choice. Yelena Osipova, the elderly activist recently arrested for peacefully protesting in St Petersburg has become a symbol of bravery and inspiration across the world.
