Hey everybody, Zack here at etrailer.com. Today, we’re taking a look at the Yakima HighRoad on our 2021 Ford Bronco. It’s gonna be an excellent rooftop bike rack. If you’re looking for a wheel Mount design. So there’s mainly two types of roof mounted bike racks. We have wheel mounted right here and then we have fork mounted.

Fork mounts, where we’re gonna take the front tire off and we’re gonna use our front fork. So whether you’re using a thru-axle or a quick release, like we have here today, it’s gonna mount down there. Now there’s benefits to both of those. With wheel mount, I like it because I don’t have to take my tire off and store it in the back of my vehicle. I don’t have to put it back on, all of those things.

I can just take my bike off and just get going down the trail, whenever I get to my spot. Now, with the downside of that, we’re gonna have, it’s gonna be a little bit more effort to get it up there. With a fork mount and when we had that front tire off, it gives us a little bit better grip to put it in place and we don’t have to get as high to get everything mounted. So, kinda depends on what you’re looking for, what type of bike you’re working with. So with our carbon road bike today, it’s not as challenging.

It’s a little bit taller vehicle, but it’s just something to keep in mind. But this is one of the most popular, wheel mount styles that we offer. Yakima put a lot of thought into this one. I really like how it’s a little bit easier to use when it comes to the wheel mounted styles. Now when it comes to the specs on this, it’s gonna work with a wide variety of bikes.

It’s gonna work with 24 inch up to 29 inch tires there for you. It’s also gonna work with wheelbases to 48 inches. So if you’ve got, you know something that’s got a decent amount of wheelbase, maybe a larger mountain bike, downhill mountain bike, that’s something to be mindful of but it’s gonna work with most bikes in between. Now, when it comes to that weight capacity, gonna offer you 45 pounds. So you get up there 45 pounds. That’s a lot of weight you’re getting on the roof. When it comes to getting on your roof with a taller vehicle. Even maybe in taller I’m still need a little bit of help to get it there. The milky doorstep is really nice for option. This is just gonna provide you a good platform to get into the, a little bit higher up than just the door seal and just get that mounted in place. It’s a little tight here. These usually work pretty good. There you go, See that’s just gonna give you a little bit more of a step to get up here and work with it. Now for me, I don’t quite need it but I just wanted to give you an option. But to get this off, what we’re gonna do is, we’re gonna come back here to this strap. So it’s just ratchets down right there, holds it in place, can get that up. And if you’re putting this on the driver’s side or passenger side, you can flip the strap around. So it’s easy to run on the exterior of your vehicle. Another thing before I take this off, we’re gonna have this included bike lock back here. It’s got plenty of length to get up around our frame, and it’s gonna lock back into itself like this. When you get it wrapped around. Now it comes with just a plastic lock core in there. That’s just something you’re gonna get out with a screwdriver. You are gonna wanna pick up a separate same-key system lock core from Yakima. And what that’s for is the reason they don’t included that is because maybe you wanna get matching lock cores for your roof rack or you have another accessory like a ski and snowboard carrier, a hitch mounted bike rack. That way allows you to have one key for all of your Yakima accessories. But then if we come up here, we can get a closer look at how this works. So all we’re gonna do is you’re gonna keep one hand on your bike, you can just spin this knob. So this knob just loosens everything up and you can see how we can just kinda bring that back and then whenever we wanna get this in place, we’re just going to push our bike in the place, get that back there and just tighten this down. So you can see how the more I tighten that knob, the less that comes back. So then it’s just gonna clamp this together around our front tire, until you get to a nice spot. You can see that’s putting a lot of pressure on that tire, even with that paired up. So that’s gonna give you a nice solid spot there on your ro
