From growing urbanization to sustainability, there are important issues to tackle when it comes to smart cities. About 55 percent of the world’s population now resides in urban areas, which is expected to grow to 68 percent by 2050. Cities occupy only 3 percent of the earth but account for up to 80 percent of energy consumption—as well as 75 percent of global waste and carbon emissions.

For those of you who have ever wondered what the cities of the future look like, several future cities, using smart city technology, are already under development, from high-tech towns to sci-fi kinds of woods. Tomorrow’s futuristic cities are refashioning, giving birth to newer things we have never heard of. Today we will be talking about future smart cities in the upcoming decades, such as the Woven City Japan, NEOM Saudi Arabia and Starbase at SpaceX’s Texas.
