For years, South Korea has been one of the most rapidly developed nations in the world, boasting a high-tech economy, world-class education, and an aggressive foreign policy. Much of Seoul’s built cultural heritage was lost during the Korean War and demolished during its rapid modernization throughout the 20th century. Because of these past losses, the city is particularly conscious of the need to preserve what remains and ensure a legacy for the future. Seoul has to go too far in terms of futuristic development. And the government is seriously spending billions of dollars on high-rise developments.
