Flying cars, or personal air vehicles (PAVs), have long been associated with the future, and for Back to the Future fans, it’s a must-have. While flying cars have been around for decades, they have yet to become a reality for the general public. PAVs offer obvious benefits, such as avoiding traffic, roadworks, and accidents. VTOL technology is used to achieve vertical takeoff and landing, enabling them to take off from virtually anywhere. However, the technology behind PAVs is a combination of already established propulsion systems and hydrogen fuel cell technology, alongside a variety of sensors, safety features, and navigational and collision avoidance systems.

Despite their potential, the world is not yet ready for the mass adoption of flying cars. The infrastructure required for them to operate on a large scale does not currently exist, and regulations and laws would need to be overhauled to accommodate them. Additionally, the process of obtaining a driver’s license for a flying car would be vastly different from that of a conventional car, leaving many questions unanswered.
