Taiga Motors, which formerly positioned itself as a leader in snowmobile fleet electrification in the Nordic region and filed for creditor protection in Quebec last summer, is now under the control of a UK entrepreneur, Stewart Wilkinson.

The word “taiga” means “boreal forest” or “snow forest.”

Taiga also manufactures electric watercraft.

In July, the company told reporters that the mild 2022-2023 winter hurt its sales of snowmobiles, causing it to run out of money. It later obtained interim debtor-in-possession financing and creditor protection from the Superior Court of Québec

The company had previously received $4.4 million in debtor financing from Export Development Canada.

“The alliance will create a strong end-to-end ecosystem to deliver industry-leading electric propulsion systems and vehicles to a broad range of recreational and commercial customers worldwide,” Wilkinson said in a statement.

Wilkinson controls a suite of marine electrification brands including Vita, a high-profile electric yacht maker that he founded: Evoy, an electric boat motor systems developer, which merged with Vita this summer; and Aqua Superpower, a London-based global marine charging network.
