We are pleased to announce our latest collaboration with the landmark Los Angeles institution Bob Baker Marionette Theater.

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater is a Los Angeles institution that has served millions of children and families since its original location opened in Downtown Los Angeles in 1963. Their mission as a nonprofit organization is to educate, celebrate, and inspire imagination through puppetry and the allied arts.

With over 2,000 handcrafted puppets and an archive spanning nearly a century, Bob Baker Marionette Theater is one of the largest and longest running puppet theaters in the United States. Now in a new Highland Park home, they will continue to expand performances & programs to reach families, adults, and the Los Angeles County community at large.

From Welcome Founder/Artist, Jason Celaya: Growing up in Los Angeles, our public elementary schools would occasionally have field trips to BBMT. The memories and impact of those early experiences of the “practical magic” of the puppets still inspire much of what we try to capture and create here at Welcome.

The theater just reopened its doors and welcomed back audiences after nearly 18 months of closure that began in March 2020. Last December the community rallied around the theater’s survival with generous support and they were able to remain in their new location in Highland Park. The theater has a fundraising goal for 2022 of $100,000, and if they are able to achieve it the Jerry and Terri Kohn Foundation will match their efforts with a $50,000 donation. The proceeds from this collaboration will directly contribute to that fundraising goal and aid them in their mission of restoring, revitalizing, and reimagining ther theater, puppets and shows for a contemporary audience. Link in bio for both product and donation.
