A level first previewed 1 year ago, and completed and verified last August, White Space is a beautiful and futuristic level from the legend himself, that I have been eagerly awaiting for months now. I was pretty disappointed when the level was verified by Viprin last summer, but then Xender Game wanted to continue some work in terms of optimizing the level, which meant we couldn’t enjoy it for ourselves for all this time.
Now that it’s finally out, I have really no words to describe how incredible this level truly is. Xender Game is known primarily for his astounding boss fights, but White Space is an opportunity for him to showcase another side of his creative talents, this time taking us into a fantasy world that offers so many different characteristics to be fully appreciated.
The level starts off slow and calm, with a blue and white colour palette combined with modern block design, which paints a peaceful yet futuristic environment. More detail is added later on, introducing stunning backgrounds as well as moving objects that traverse in front of the player, adding a real feeling of depth to the level.
Around the 1-minute mark, the level completely takes off, adding amazing backgrounds, effects and beatiful artwork that changes almost every second, making it quite hard to keep up. Throughout the level, there is plenty of references to transportation, including trains that make up a big part of the dynamic aspect of the level. There is also text scattered throughout the level in creative ways, and all of these things seem to be leading up to a disastrous car crash that appears near the end of the level, marking a beautiful yet solemn finale to everything the level has been building up to.
We then see a reference to glass shards, which I believe is a signature mark of Xender Game, and finally the level concludes in poetic style, summarizing the experience, while also adding some finals words that tie in the whole level to other experiences and challenges that extend far beyond the game. In conclusion, White Space is a GD masterpiece that brings out the best of one of the game’s greatest artists, and I’m happy it’s finally available for us all to enjoy.
