Everything you need to know about Art Deco and little known facts too! I’ll explain Art Deco in under 6 minutes. Art Deco was the ‘Punk Rock’ of the 1920’s, but the term Art Deco wasn’t used until 1925. The movement was in direct response and was a reaction to the First World War and came about soon after the end of the war (1914 – 1918) A celebration of life, hope and a sense of looking forward to the future. Modern, futuristic and wildly different.
Rich, vibrant designs, geometric shapes and man made materials. Bakelite (the first modern plastic) glass and chrome were all popular.
I’ll show you examples of Art Deco furniture, architecture, jewellery, telephones, vacuum cleaners, car mascots, artwork, smoking caps…and even a Bakelite hairdryer!
