Trial run of hoverboard motor (generator) attached to stirling engine and first test of peltier module

The search continues for an economical (cheap!) generator to attach to the stirling engine. A hoverboard motor ticks a lot of boxes, so I’ve attached it to the stirling engine and gave it a run! Also, I’ve experimented with a Peltier module to see if this can be used as a secondary option to generate electricity.

Update

Due to some great comments I’ve decided to try out a hover-board motor as a generator. They’ve got a lot going for them and their cheap (£29 new on Ebay). I’ve also bought a wind turbine regulator which also has a built in dump load so the engine shouldn’t overspeed when it is off load.

Also, I’ve attached a peltier thermoelectric module + heat sink to the side of the furnace.

Objective

Check the voltage output from the generator (between phases AC) and then connect it to the regulator and put it under load to see how the engine reacts.

To see if the peltier module gives any electrical output

Conclusion

I measured the voltage output of the generator and it peaked at 26 Volts AC at 900 RPM. When the regulator was connected the maximum output power measured 150 watts. I was able to run some DC equipment from it which was nice for morale!

The Peltier thermoelectric module was slightly disappointing. 0.7 Volts was measured (potential) but I was unable to detect any Amps? It seems that I may have destroyed it through overheating (one comment suggests that these are only good to 150C)

Next steps

Sort out a reliable way of putting variable load on the generator (A viewer has recommended an array of 12v bulbs which are individually switched)

Check my amp meter is working correctly so I can retest the peltier module. Any Ideas?

Thankyou for watching.

Your ideas / comments are all appreciated, Cheers
