Egypt – Accelerating Construction of Various Infrastructure
Egypt is carrying out various projects based on “Egypt Vision 2030”, an economic development plan which presents a blueprint for overall national development and leap forward.
In particular, in response to the country’s quickly growing urban population, new city construction projects are in full swing across Egypt, starting with the new administrative capital relocation project.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1995, Korea and Egypt have cooperated in diverse areas such as overseas construction, large-scale national projects and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) etc. The Egyptian government said it wants to learn from South Korea’s experience in various fields and develop mutually beneficial cooperative relations between the two countries.
‘Hello to the New Government’ is Diplomat Talks’ special long-term series created in line with the launch of the new government in Korea. This week, we will examine the current status of exchanges between Korea and Egypt, and consider how the new government can cooperate in Egypt’s infrastructure construction with the Ambassador of Egypt to Korea, Khaled Abdelrahman Hassan Abdelrahman.

다양한 인프라 건설에 박차를 가하고 있는 이집트
전반적인 국가발전 및 도약의 청사진을 제시한 경제개발 계획 ‘이집트 비전2030’을 바탕으로 다양한 프로젝트를 진행 중인 이집트.
특히 도시 인구 증가 문제에 대응하기 위해 신행정수도 이전 프로젝트를 필두로, 이집트 전역에선 신도시 건설 프로젝트가 한창이다. 한국과 이집트는 1995년 수교한 이래 해외건설, 대형 국책사업, 지능형교통체계(ITS) 등 다양한 분야에서 협력해왔다. 이집트 정부는 다양한 분야에서 한국의 경험을 배우고 양국 간 호혜 협력 관계를 발전시키기를 원한다고 밝혔다.
새 정부 출범을 맞아 기획한 ‘디플로맷 토크’의 장기 프로젝트 ‘Hello to the New Government.’ 이번 시간에는 칼리드 압델라흐만 대사와 함께 한국과 이집트 간의 교류 현황을 살펴보고, 한국의 새 정부가 이집트의 인프라 건설에 어떻게 협력할 수 있을지에 대해 고민해본다.
