When pandemic struck and United Airlines lost the bulk of its customers during lockdown, the airline took the opportunity to accelerate technologies to keep passengers and employees safe, like implementing touchless kiosks and airport QR codes to connect waylaid passengers to a live agent on demand.

The Easton Technology Management Center’s 2022 Innovate conference featured an Innovator Spotlight with Linda Jojo, United’s executive vice president of technology and chief digital officer, to talk about the kinds of technologies that are enabling greater efficiencies for both airlines and travelers. United’s app now integrates all the features of its website, for instance. Jojo made observations about the importance of agile leadership and transparency in communication since pandemic forced transformative changes to the travel industry.
